Weekly Round Up - September 11

There were 11 games in the first round of the League Cup this weekend, and no shortage of goals to go with it.

In total, a huge 86 goals were scored in the 11 cup-ties.

An all Division One clash saw Acklam Electrical host Village Park Rangers, and it was the home side that lead by a goal at half-time, only for a commanding second half performance from the visitors, as they went on to win 5-1.

Holders Roseberry Park fell at the first hurdle, going down 3-2 to Marton Taxis in a tight affair, while The Black Swan demolished Lowe & Simpson Staircases 7-1.

Division Two Courtyard needed penalties to overcome newcomers Beechwood Youth, 1-1 AET preceded a tense 5-4 shootout win for the Guisborough-based side.

Dormans FIFC overcame Stockton Milehouse 7-2, Marton Rovers comprehensively disposed of Redcar 9-1, and Park End thumped Ormesby CTP 11-0.

Marstons overcame newcomers Steel City FC 5-2, while Ormesby thrashed The Piper 10-4 and Middlebeck produced an upset as they beat Riverside 4-1.

The Cleveland needed extra time and with the game at 4-4 a 118th minute winner saw them progress to the second round at the expense of Lakes United.

There was one game in Division Three this weekend, AFC Sheep hammered FC Khans 10-0.

Division One:

In two tightly contested affairs, reigning champions Park End had to fight hard to hold off Dormans FIFC, eventually winning 4-3, while South Bank overcame Ormesby FC by the same scoreline.

Last season’s Division Two winners and runners-up faced off as Terry Smith holders The Cleveland lost 2-1 to League Cup winners Roseberry Park in the opening game of the season for the newly promoted duo. Village Park Rangers went top on goal difference after the first weekend having picked up a 2-0 away win over Marton Taxis.

Division Two:

Newly relegated Marton Rovers got off to a good start in their quest for promotion, recording a 4-3 win over Lowe and Simpson Staircases, who had come back from 4-1 down, but the experienced Rovers held out for all three points.

Eight goals were evenly shared between Courtyard and Middlebeck, while Lakes United and Redcar FC shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw.

Marstons went top of a fledging division on goal difference, disposing of Ormesby CTP 3-1.

Division Three:

Just one game took place in the newly created third division this weekend, The Bucaneer getting off to a storming start, hammering The Piper 8-1 in their first games in the Langbaurgh League.

*There were four postponements this weekend, consisting of Acklam Electrical v The Black Swan in Division One, Riverside v Stockton Milehouse in Division Two, FC Khans v AFC Sheep and Beechwood Youth FC v The Tiger in Division Three – all of which fell to accessibility issues.



New Email Score System

Ahead of the opening weekend of matches in the Langbaurgh Sunday League 2011/12, all club secretaries are urged to take note of a new emailing score system.

As stated in official League Rules, clubs must notify the League of the results no later than 5pm on the day of the game.

Clubs failing to do so, will be fined as per League Rules.

You can now simply email your result to - in turn ensuring speedy updates of the results and league table sections of the site.

*Please note, hard copies of Match Cards must still be with the League Secretary, Alan Hodgson, no later than two days following a game.



September's Fixtures Released

The Langbaurgh League Cup first round, as drawn at this year's AGM, is now published under Cup Competitions.

All dates for the first round are 11 September.
